The chemical hub of the Hinduja Group was created with Gulf Oil India Limited merging with IDL Industries Limited on January 1, 2002. The merger has enabled the Company to leverage the large marketing networks of lubricants and industrial explosives businesses and achieve a turnover of Rs 10 billion for the financial year 2008-09. Exports accounted for five per cent of the turnover. IDL Industries Limited was renamed as Gulf Oil Corporation Limited with the merger of Gulf Oil India’s business.

In the 100 years’ heritage of Gulf Oil, it has been able to establish itself as a brand which is responsive to customers need for value in reducing cost of vehicle running and maintenance. In a very low involvement and almost commoditised category, Gulf as a brand has connected with its consumers at an emotional level by ensuring them that their vehicle lubricant requirement will be taken care of while they enjoy their life.

Gulf Oil is known for its association with auto racing, as it famously sponsored the John Wyer Automotive team in the 1960s and the early 1970s. The signature light blue and orange colour scheme associated with its Ford GT40 and Porsche 917 is one of the most famous corporate racing colours and has been replicated by other racing teams sponsored by Gulf.

From being the first company to launch the long-drain-interval engine oils for trucks and motorcycles, Gulf Oil has carried forward the legacy of innovation. It is the also first player in the industry to bring in the long lasting engine oils for commercial vehicles that could last for 40,000 kms, and latter for 80,000 kms. The same series of engine oils for two-wheelers can last for upto 10,000 kms.

The brand committed an emotional positioning plank of “Zindagi Nonstop”. By this, Gulf enhanced its credentials as not just a company that provides lubrication solutions.
